The FOX® 2.0 Performance Series 9.6″ Smooth Body Remote Reservoir Rear Shock (985-24-118) is a bolt-on rear shock with an external piggyback reservoir, providing 2″-3″ of rear lift on 2003-2024 Toyota 4Runner, 2007-2021 Toyota FJ Cruiser, and 2003-2014 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, and 3.5″-5″ of rear lift on Toyota Tacoma per the trim and drivetrain breakdown below.
IMPORTANT: Lift height for this shock differs by vehicle, and Tacoma coverage differs by trim, drivetrain, and model year. On 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, and Land Cruiser Prado, this shock is valved for 2″-3″ of rear lift across all trims. On Tacoma, the same part number is valved for 3.5″-5″ of rear lift, but coverage is NOT uniform across trims: 2005-2014 RWD models (6-lug wheels only, all trims) are covered; for 4WD, only the Base trim (2005-2015) and TRD Sport trim (2010-2015) are covered prior to 2016 – other 4WD trims in that window are NOT covered by this SKU. 2015 additionally covers PreRunner and TRD Pro trims. From 2016-2023, coverage is comprehensive across all trims on both RWD (6-lug) and 4WD. Tacoma RWD applications require the 6-lug wheel version only. FJ Cruiser coverage for model years 2015-2021 applies to UAE/export-spec vehicles only (50-75mm lift equivalent), as FJ Cruiser was not sold new in the US market past 2014. Land Cruiser Prado is not and has never been sold in the US; this application is included for export-market buyers. The aluminum-bodied Performance Series 2.0 smooth body shock delivers FOX®’s race-developed damping in an affordable, hassle-free bolt-on package. The metal impact-extruded, clear-anodized aluminum shock body dissipates heat faster than a conventional steel-bodied shock, resisting fade under sustained off-road use.
An external reservoir increases oil and nitrogen capacity beyond what an internal-reservoir shock can hold, improving damping consistency over long, rough stretches. The included black-anodized reservoir mounting clamp and other components are CNC-machined from 6061-T6 aluminum.
A race-developed, high-flow damping piston is matched with application-specific valving for predictable ride quality across the roughest conditions. The shaft is 5/8″ hard chrome-plated, heat-treated alloy steel, sealed with a redundant sealing pack (main seal, wiper seal, scraper seal). FOX® backs this shock with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
