The FOX® Factory Race 2.5 X 10 Smooth Body Remote Shock (P/N 981-25-001) is a 2.5-inch-body remote-reservoir shock with 10 inches of travel, engineered for racing and high-speed off-road applications that already have a primary means of suspending the vehicle’s weight, such as leaf springs or torsion bars.
IMPORTANT: This is a Smooth Body Remote Reservoir configuration only — it does not include a coilover spring perch and is not a stand-alone suspension component. It requires an existing primary spring (leaf spring, torsion bar, or coil spring) to support vehicle weight. This 10″ travel version is closely related to FOX® P/N 981-25-002-3, a 2.5 X 12 Smooth Body Remote Shock with a DSC (Dual Speed Compression) Adjuster and 2 additional inches of travel — confirm your required travel length and whether you need external compression adjustment before ordering, as the two are not interchangeable.
Factory Race Series Smooth Body shocks deliver race-winning damping performance and proven internal components in an easy-to-mount, remote-reservoir assembly. The remote reservoir separates the oil and nitrogen charge from the shock body, increasing oil volume and reducing heat fade during sustained high-speed use.
The shock body is finished in FOX Grey Cerakote®, a proprietary protective ceramic coating applied over a zinc-plated basecoat for corrosion and abrasion resistance. The shaft is 17-4 H900 hard chrome-plated stainless steel for a hardened, corrosion-resistant wear surface.
Internally, the shock runs JM92 MIL-SPEC oil developed specifically for off-road racing applications, and all aluminum components are black anodized and CNC machined for precision and durability.
The unit is fully owner-serviceable and rebuildable, allowing internal valving adjustments or full rebuilds without factory service. FOX® backs this shock with its official limited warranty; full warranty terms are available from FOX® directly.
