How the new 8-option backlight works:
To cycle through the backlight color options, switch the backlight on/off in under 1 second. When you switch the backlight off and back on in under 1 second, it will go to the next backlight color. When you land on the color you want, simply leave the backlight swtiched on for longer than 2 seconds to save the color. Repeat the process when you want to change the backlight color again.
