The FOX® 985-24-103 is a 2.0 Performance Series smooth body remote reservoir shock with 9.6 inches of travel, built for 1999–2004 Ford F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty trucks as a front application, and additionally listed by FOX® as a rear application for F-450/F-550 chassis through 2016.
IMPORTANT: This part number covers two distinct positions depending on your truck — do not assume front-only fitment. As a front shock, it covers 1999–2004 F-250, F-350, F-450, and F-550 Super Duty at 1.5″–3″ of lift. As a rear shock, FOX®’s application data lists this same SKU for F-450/F-550 chassis at 0″–1″ lift for 1999–2004, and extends rear coverage on F-450/F-550 through 2005–2016 at a 0″–1.5″ lift range — well past the 2004 cutoff that applies to the front application. Confirm both your position (front vs. rear) and model year against the fitment breakdown below before ordering. This unit ships with the black-anodized billet reservoir clamp included; no additional hardware is required for installation.
This is a bolt-on aluminum-bodied shock built around FOX®’s Performance Series platform, designed to deliver race-proven damping performance in a hassle-free direct-fit package. The 2.0″ impact-extruded 6061-T6 aluminum shock body is clear-anodized for corrosion resistance and dissipates heat faster than a comparable steel-body shock.
An external reservoir increases total oil and nitrogen capacity over a standard monotube design, improving damping consistency during extended off-road runs or heavy-load towing where the shock is working hardest. The reservoir mounting clamp and other components are CNC-machined from black-anodized 6061-T6 billet aluminum.
A race-developed high-flow damping piston is matched with application-specific valving tuned for the Super Duty platform, delivering predictable ride quality across rough and uneven terrain. The shaft is 5/8″ hard chrome-plated, heat-treated alloy steel, and sealing is handled by a redundant three-stage system — main seal, wiper seal, and scraper seal — for long service life. FOX® backs this shock with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.
