Description
Part number 981-25-117-3 is a FOX® 2.5 Performance Elite Series coil-over remote reservoir shock with 10 inches of travel, a 7/8″ hard chrome plated steel shaft, and a Dual Speed Compression (DSC) adjuster, sold individually as a build component for custom and off-road applications.
IMPORTANT: This is a coil-over shock body only — springs are not included. The unit ships with the adjustable preload ring, dual-rate spring crossover rings, spring divider, and spring retainer needed to mount and tune spring rate, but the springs themselves must be purchased separately to match your vehicle weight and ride height goals. This shock is sold individually, not as a pair.
This FOX® 2.5 Performance Elite coil-over is built to deliver race-derived damping performance in a shock designed for enthusiast and off-road builds. The remote reservoir design separates additional oil and nitrogen volume from the shock body, improving heat dissipation and maintaining consistent damping performance during sustained hard use.
At the core of the shock is a high-flow, 8-port sintered iron-copper graphite piston paired with a triple redundant Buna seal pack system, which controls oil flow precisely across the piston face while preventing leakage under pressure. The reservoir connects to the shock body through a -8 rubber hose with crimp fittings, and the shock mounts on -10 PTFE-lined, heat-treated steel spherical bearings for smooth articulation under load.
The DSC adjuster on this shock allows independent tuning of low-speed and high-speed compression damping, letting the end user dial in ride characteristics from a plush trail setting to a firmer, more controlled feel without changing internal valving.
The shock body is a zinc plated seamless alloy construction with clear zinc plating for corrosion resistance, and all visible aluminum components are black anodized billet aluminum. Extended length is 28.45″ and compressed length is 18.45″. FOX® suspension products are backed by the manufacturer’s limited warranty; refer to FOX®’s published warranty documentation for full terms.

This is a universal-application coil-over shock sold by spec rather than by specific vehicle fitment; it is not tied to a particular year, make, or model and is intended for custom or off-road builds using a 2.5in bore, 10in travel remote reservoir coil-over with a 7/8″ shaft. Confirm bore size, travel, shaft diameter, and mounting configuration against your build requirements before ordering, and note that springs must be purchased separately to complete the assembly.
