The FOX® 2.5 Performance Elite Series shock is purpose-built for the second- and third-generation Tacoma platform. The design addresses the factory forward rake by providing a level ride height without reducing droop travel, and increases overall suspension articulation for improved trail capability. The external reservoir increases internal oil volume, which allows the shock to dissipate heat more efficiently than a monotube design of equivalent body diameter — a direct benefit during sustained off-road use where repeated high-speed compression cycles would otherwise cause fade.

The 2.5-inch body is impact extruded and CNC machined from 6061-T6 aluminum, then hard-anodized with a Type III finish for corrosion and abrasion resistance. The 7/8-inch shaft is hard chrome plated, heat-treated alloy steel. A race-developed high-flow piston drives application-specific valving tuned to balance compliance on rough terrain with stability at highway speeds. A redundant sealing system — main seal, wiper seal, and scraper seal — protects the shaft and maintains consistent damping over the life of the shock. PTFE-lined, heat-treated alloy steel spherical bearings are used at both mount points.

The external reservoir carries a Dual Speed Compression (DSC) adjuster, positioned to clear aggressive tires at full steering lock. The DSC allows separate tuning of low-speed and high-speed compression damping, so the shock can be adapted for load changes, varying terrain, and driver preference without tools beyond the adjuster itself.
