The FOX® 987-24-005 is a 2.5 Performance Series HTO rear shock built for 2014-2026 Ram 2500 4WD trucks running 0 to 1.5 inches of lift, using a 2.5-inch impact-extruded aluminum body with an internal floating piston and Hydraulic Top Out technology to control rebound.
IMPORTANT: This listing is for the REAR shock only; the matching front shock is sold under a separate part number. This SKU is valved for 0-1.5 inches of lift and 4WD applications; on 2014 model year trucks, the Outdoorsman and Power Wagon trims fit regardless of drive type per FOX’s published fitment data, while all other 2014 trims require 4WD. Confirm your lift height before ordering, as FOX offers separate part numbers for other lift ranges on this platform. Sold individually.
FOX 2.5 Performance Series shocks deliver the benefits of a 2.5-inch shock body without the complexity of a reservoir or external compression adjuster. This bolt-on rear shock uses position-sensitive technology and vehicle-specific valving with a larger piston to improve both on-road ride quality and off-road performance over the stock shock.
The 2.5-inch shock body houses an internal floating piston (IFP) that separates the shock oil from the high-pressure nitrogen charge, keeping damping consistent under load. Hydraulic Top Out (HTO) technology adds usable, position-sensitive rebound damping control on and off the pavement, forcing shock oil through a secondary shim stack near full extension to slow shaft speed. This reduces harsh top-outs and improves ride comfort, particularly after installing heavier, more aggressive tires or lifting the truck beyond OEM ride height.
The shock body is impact-extruded from 6061-T6 aluminum and finished with a Type II clear anodized plating to dissipate heat and resist corrosion. A 5/8-inch hard chrome shaft rides through a stem-top upper mount and eyelet lower mount. FOX backs this shock with a Limited Lifetime Warranty.

On 2014 models, Outdoorsman and Power Wagon trims fit regardless of drive type, while all other 2014 trims require 4WD; 2015 and newer years apply across all Ram 2500 4WD trims and submodels.
